If you can't feed'em, Don't breed'em....

I was watching television one Monday night and decided to watch Black Entertainment Television. The network's late night show, "B.E.T. Tonight", had a subject that is tearing the United States' poor apart: "If you can't feed'em, Don't breed'em".

This was first seen as bumperstickers on cars all over North Carolina. It focuses on living within your means. Many people, most of whom is African-american, have a problem with this slogan. Of course this type of subject brings out a divide to the African-American community. They feel that it points the fingers right at them because African-americans in the United States are the "posterchilds" for Welfare, and the person whom came up with the slogan was a Caucaisan Sentator representing North Carolina.

As usual, the media put the slogan out of porportion. This slogan is about living within your means. It is not about telling poor African-americans women not to have sex. The fact of the matter is, most people whom are on welfare are poor Caucaisans (better know as po' white trailor trash). If anyone should be angry, it should be the Caucaisans whom are in the system.

I feel that "If you can't feed'em, don't breed'em" is a positive step for the next century. It is not about preventing sex, it is about living within your means. If you can not afford having children, wear condoms; I believe the trend now is wearing two condoms. Just have safer sex and try not to be too casual about it.

Another thing is about buying clothes for your kid. Many poor folks tend to buy their children very expensive clothes. I feel that if you really have to work to buy your children clothing that will not last a year, you should really think about the fashion of your money spending and not the fashion your children. I live in a poor neighborhood, and I see these mothers buying their children Air Jordans, or Hugo Boss, or even DKNY. Now, if you can't afford it for yourself, why buy it for a three-year-old whom would only grow out of it within a year or two?

Maybe before many people argue about the slogan, they should first prove that the slogan wrong. If you would like to know more about this "controversy", feel free to e-mail me or just sign the guestbook.
